PREDESIGN PHASE: 

 

In the predesign or programming phase MBW Designs gathers all information regarding the site, scope of project, the client’s needs and the client’s objective for the space through meetings and discussions.  Evaluation of current conditions, inventory of current furniture and furnishings are compiled in this phase.  Any measurements and/or photographs relating to the design of the project are taken in this phase. 

 

PRELIMINARY DESIGN PHASE:  

 

During this phase, which begins upon receipt of signed proposal and deposit, the creative portion of the design project starts.  Here is where the concept is realized based on client’s vision and all of the visuals (preliminary drawings, rough sketches, materials boards--based on a general direction of materials, and general layout of floor plan) are presented for client approval or changes.   The completion of this phase comes upon the client’s approval of the preliminary design.

 

DESIGN DEVELOPMENT PHASE (REFINING THE DESIGN):  

 

This phase will refine the design with more details of the proposed design. The discussion of budgets and estimates will begin.  During this DD phase, some design elements may need to be finalized, such as  fabrics, lighting fixtures, plumbing fixtures, accessories and finish materials (i.e. flooring, paint colors, trim and molding, etc.).  The client’s approval of the design concept and selections indicates that the design can move into the technical documents phase. After approval of the design, changes to the basic design are considered “additional services” and will require change orders and additional fees. 

 

TECHNICAL DOCUMENTS PHASE (PRODUCTION & ORDERING PROCESS):  

 

This phase will begin the specifications for the project phase.  Ordering of all approved materials will begin.  All specifications for FF&E (furniture, finishes/fixtures and equipment) will be produced.  Any dealings with sub-contractors will begin.  This is the details phase of the project.  

 

 

CONSTRUCTION ADMINISTRATION PHASE:  

 

Construction begins. All specified design elements are constructed. Your design team will begin Installation and final coordination of design project.
